ROCKIN' JOKER CLUB CHATTER JANUARY 2007 by Marv and Ina Tanner (Published in Squares 'Round the Bay, 01/07) |
As we begin 2007, we look back on all the good happenings with the Rockin' Jokers in 2006. Our membership has grown, and our dance nights are filled with fun and laughter. December was a very active time for our club. We sponsored the Newer Dancer hoedown with Roger Smith and Harold Fleeman calling. Some of our members marched and danced in the San Jose Christmas parade, and also, entertained the residents at the Terreno Gardens Skilled Care Home with lunch (of course) at the Sonoma Chicken Coop. We shared dinner and dancing with the Cambrian Methodist Church members. The joint board meeting, at Harry's Hofbrau included another great meal. We ended the season with our annual Holiday party night, and our all-area plus club and class party night. Our social activities in 2007 will begin with an afternoon of swing dancing to the 10th Avenue Band at the Avalon Ballroom. Pat and Pete Kane, our new activities coordinators, are planning this event for us. We recently welcomed new members Doug and Jerry Bates. Our long time sheriff Frank Kistler hung up his spurs and turned over his badge to Pete Talany. Pete, who regularly wears a cowboy hat, is a natural new sheriff - watch out! We have missed Otto and Carol Schmid. We hope Otto has recovered by now from his recent illness. We expressed our sympathy to Don Arndt, our membership person, on the passing of his mother. Karl Belser (who now heads up the Committee to Promote Square Dancing) and Roger Smith have been instrumental in starting a very popular newer-dancer class that is being offered at the Camden Community Center on Monday evenings and is open to all clubs. * * *
