ROCKIN' JOKER CLUB CHATTER January 2008 by Marv and Ina Tanner (Published in Squares 'Round the Bay, 01/08) |
The Rockin'
Jokers were on the go during the holiday season. We first
provided square dance entertainment for the residents at Sunrise
Assisting Living of Sunnyvale. One of the residents is Joanne Jones
mother. After the demonstration, we had a change-of-office lunch
and installation of officers at the Fresh Choice restaurant in
Almaden. Some of us went "over the hill" for the Lucky Steppers
Annual Toy Dance, with callers Harold Fleeman, Roger Smith, Don Benson
and Walt Cooley and Cuer Sue Harris. We then hosted our New
Dancer Hoedown with Roger Smith and Harold Fleeman calling.
Thanks go to Tim & Marsha Gresham for organizing this
hoedown. We also thank Jane Bishop for organizing a tour of
the Vasona Park "Fantasy of Lights 2007" with dinner preceding and
dessert following. Our last event of the year was a super Alumni
Party Night - "Days of the Past". We will have scrapbooks and
photo albums for the Jokers, Rafter Rockers and Rockin' Jokers.
All clubs and classed were invited to join us. Capping off a
fabulous year for the Rockin' Jokers will be our participation in the
SCVSDA/SCVCA Whing Ding. We were happy to have Marge Elizondo dancing with us again so soon after her surgery. In November we welcomed new members Joan Julius and Bud Johnson. At our last dance in November we welcomed traveler Jerry Maurice, a caller from New Hampshire. He called a couple of entertaining tips for us. With 2008 now here, we are looking forward to dancing at the perennial Running Bear Hoedown and the ever favorite Winter Festival in King City. Our party night in January has the theme "Winter Wonderland", which promises to be a fun evening. Lastly, we will welcome other club dancers to the 5th Wednesday dance, which we are hosting. * * *
