ROCKIN' JOKER CLUB CHATTER August 2008 by Lola Michael (Published in Squares 'Round the Bay, 08/08) |
The Rockin'
Jokers enjoyed the Bocce Ball tournament arranged by
Colleen and Bob Rootsaert. The event was held at St Francis
Cabrini Church and a BBQ potluck was enjoyed afterwards. Dan and Lorraine Buranzon invited the RJ's to join them in Fort Brag to dance at the Redwood Coasters Independence Day Hoedown and eat at the World's Largest Salmon BBQ. Martha and Tim Gresham, Allen and Carol Glesser, Greg Dorenkamp, Lisa Nordby, John Flora, Dolores Ferrero, Jackie Daemion and Karl Belser all accepted the invitation and had a wonderful trip. Jim Kauss and Patty Stevens plus many volunteers deserve a big hand from the Club. The annual picnic at Stevens Creek Park was a huge success. The BBQ and pot luck were delicious, the games were fun, and the camaraderie outstanding. On July 19 approximately 50 members of the Rockin' Jokers visited Harold and Lee Fleeman and the Lucky Steppers. The occasion was to kick off their 50th year sponsoring the outdoor Slab Dance by the river in Ben Lomond. Most of the Rockin' Jokers enjoyed dinner at the Santa Cruz Pasta Factory in Scotts Valley before the dance. Our best thoughts are with Marion Pava who recently underwent knee surgery again. With Marion's determination she will be on the dance floor in the near future. JoKay and Kirk Bednar enjoyed a vacation at the Dream Resort in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Carol Glesser traveled to Thaiwan to visit her son. Marge Elizondo and Ray Bareiss were in Georgetown, CO where Marge drove her vintage 1966 Ford Mustang convertible in the 4th of July parade wearing her red cowboy hat and boots. Marv Tanner has just returned from the Bahamas. Marv gives of his time and skills to refurbish homes damaged by hurricanes. Don and Jean Arndt went hiking in Yosemite Park. While there, Don did the hike to the top of Half Dome. A number of couples have celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary - Bob and Judy Hogan and Frank and Marlene Rivas are the most recent. Proof dancing is good for your marriage, avid dancers Helen and Twich Twichell have celebrated their 64th anniversary. Twich just turned 90 years young and still holds his own in a square. Carole and Jim Hood are the newest members of the Rockin' Jokers. * * *
