ROCKIN' JOKER CLUB CHATTER August 2007 by Marv and Ina Tanner (Published in Squares 'Round the Bay, 08/07) |
Our summer has
been really great. Our club won the can of coffee for the
most
club members at the Sunnyvale Singles' "Strawberry
Festival". We had a great evening at a San Jose
Giants
game, even though our home town favorites lost. Our "Silver
to
Gold Anniversaries" party night was a tremendous success with ten
squares dancing. Thirteen dancers where honored for dancing
26 to
50 years with our club and its preceding clubs; that was a total of 233
years of dancing! In July, our club lent its support of the Committee to Promote Square Dancing (CPSD) at the drop-in introduction dancing on Tuesday nights at the Camden Community Center. Many of our dancers attended the Lucky Steppers Anniversary Dance at The Slab in Ben Lomond with Harold Fleeman calling and Sue Harris cueing. Our annual picnic will be at the Villa Maria area of Stevens Creek County Park and is sure to be a fun and relaxing event. Our favorite August activity will be the 2nd Annual Barbecue & Croquet at Kirk & JoKay Bednar's. We reached a milestone in June when Jeanne Maeder joined the Rockin' Jokers as our 100th member. After several months of planning, we have ordered Rockin' Jokers jackets and patches. Thanks go to Kitty & Greg LaFavor for spearheading this effort. We're sure that many dancers that live in the South Bay read the article about square dancing that featured the Rockin' Jokers and the CPSD class. The article was written by Paul Lukes, with photographs by Vicki Thompson, of the Silicon Valley Community Newspapers. Rockin' Jokers traveling this summer include the Bednars' to Washington State, the Arndts' to northern Norway, and the Tanners' and Symons' on European river cruises. See you at the Fair! * * *
